Rubber roofs that go on in one piece
Ayre Roofing fit EPDM rubber flat roofs across Exeter for garages, extensions, dormers and outbuildings. Chris is trained on Firestone RubberCover, and EPDM membranes can carry manufacturer guarantees of up to 25 years on top of our own minimum 5-year guarantee.
EPDM is a synthetic rubber membrane. On most domestic roofs it goes down as one single sheet, so there are no seams across the middle of the roof for water to find. It stays flexible in frost and summer heat, it doesn't crack or blister like old felt, and it needs very little looking after.
The bits that matter
The rubber itself is the easy part. What makes an EPDM roof last is everything around it: a sound, dry deck, the right falls so water runs off, proper edge trims, and the membrane taken up walls and around rooflights and outlets. Those details are where we spend the time.
EPDM, GRP or felt?
For most garages and extensions, EPDM is our first choice. For awkward shapes or roofs that get walked on, GRP fibreglass can be better. See flat roofing in Exeter for the full picture, or call Chris on 07803 365 251.

EPDM flat roofing: common questions
How long does an EPDM roof last?
A well-fitted EPDM roof can last 25 years or more, and membranes can carry manufacturer guarantees of up to 25 years.
Is EPDM the same as single ply?
Yes, EPDM is one type of single ply membrane. See single ply roofing for larger and commercial roofs.
Can EPDM go over my old felt roof?
Sometimes, but usually we strip back to the deck so we can check it's sound and dry. Sealing a wet or rotten deck under new rubber just stores up trouble.
Can I walk on an EPDM roof?
Light foot traffic for maintenance is fine. If it's going to be used as a terrace, it needs a suitable walking surface on top.
How much does an EPDM roof cost in Exeter?
It depends on the size, the state of the deck and the details. We give a free, no-obligation written quote.

“Very happy with my new garage roof. Everything was left very tidy.”
“Undertook work as advised late 2023/early 2024 and right from the start Chris was proactive in keeping me up to speed with progress and requesting instruction when the inevitable snag was encountered. Site was left clean and tidy despite it being a fairly messy job! It's been 6 months now and no sign of any further leaks from the roof so I'm very happy with the outcome.”
“Neat, clean and tidy. Job done with no disruption and very little noise. very professional and polite, prompt response to all communications. Thanks very much Chris.”
