Roofing in Torbay
Torquay's Victorian villas and terraces, many of them on steep hillsides, mostly have natural slate roofs, and a lot of them sit in conservation areas. Brixham's cottages climb the hills above the harbour, and Paignton has everything from Edwardian terraces to bungalows and modern estates. We re-roof all of them, matching slate and lead details on older houses so they keep their character. See how a re-roof works.
Roofs that face the sea
Wind off the bay drives rain under loose slates and tiles, and salt air eats into ordinary nails and fixings faster than it does inland. On coastal roofs we pay extra attention to fixings, laps and lead, so the roof is built for where it actually is. Our news post on salt air and coastal roofing explains more.
Velux windows in Torbay
A roof window is often the easiest way to bring light into a loft room, a top-floor flat or a holiday let. We fit new and replacement Velux windows into slate, tile and flat roofs across Torquay, Paignton and Brixham, with the right flashing kit. See Velux windows.
Fascias and gutters in Torbay
Timber fascias don't last long in salty, windy weather. We replace them with uPVC fascias, soffits and gutters that don't need painting, and check the roof edge while the old boards are off. See fascias and gutters.
Single ply, EPDM, slate and lead
For flat roofs, see single ply and EPDM flat roofing in Torbay. For slipped slates, lead flashings and chimneys, see roof repairs in Torbay.
Roofers in Torbay: common questions
Do you cover all of Torbay?
Yes: Torquay, Paignton and Brixham, including St Marychurch, Babbacombe, Chelston, Preston, Goodrington and Churston.
How far away are you?
We're in Chudleigh, about 15 miles from Torquay. We plan Torbay work in advance, and for leaks we'll tell you honestly how soon we can come.
Do you work on guest houses and holiday lets?
Yes. We work for homeowners, landlords and businesses, and we can plan work around bookings where possible.
Can you match the slate on my Victorian house?
Usually, yes. We match natural slate and lead details like for like, using reclaimed slate where that's the right look.
How much does a roofer cost in Torbay?
It depends on the job, the access and any scaffolding, which on Torbay's hills can be a big part of it. We give a free, no-obligation written quote.
